Final Pre-Season Test Topped By Conway

Fortec Motorsport’s Mike Conway (Sevenoaks, Kent) broke his own Snetterton lap record during the final pre-season Formula Renault UK Championship test of the year on Wednesday – an unbroken run of five straight appearances at the head of the timesheets.

After being quickest at Snetterton last month and having also set the pace at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit, Oulton Park Island Circuit and Croft Circuit, Conway shaved six 100ths of a second off his record to set a new benchmark time of 1m 05.131 seconds (107.89mph).

Motaworld Racing enjoyed its most productive test session of the pre-season by far with Joey Foster (Truro, Cornwall) second and Oliver Jarvis (Burwell, Cambridgeshire) third, Foster ending the day just over two 10ths of a second slower than Conway and a 10th ahead of team-mate Jarvis.

Comtec Racing’s Westley Barber (Wimbish, Saffron Walden) set the fourth fastest time of 1m 05.576 seconds to cement his status as a true championship front-runner while Manor Motorsport’s Paul Di Resta (Bathgate, West Lothian) was fifth.

Fortec’s Stuart Hall (Halstead, Essex) impressed again with the sixth fastest time, a 10th of a second quicker than team-mate Charles Hollings (Norwood, West Yorkshire). Eurotek Motorsport’s Brazilian star Ruben Carrapatoso was eighth, Team JVA’s John Byrne (Magham Down, East Sussex) was ninth and Motaworld’s David Epton (Fleet, Hampshire) was 10th.

Team JLR’s Stephen Simpson (Enfield, Middlesex) enjoyed one of his better tests of the pre-season with the 11th fastest time ahead of Mark Burdett Motorsport’s Swede Alex Storckenfeldt in 12th, Team Firstair’s Canadian driver Sean McIntosh in 13th and Comtec’s Susie Stoddart (Northampton) 14th overall.

Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire hosts the opening rounds of the 2004 Formula Renault UK Championship in just over a week’s time on 10th/11th April.
