Speedway, Brandford update

BRADFORD'S Odsal Stadium could be staging Speedway again as early as March next year.Tony Mole, the Kidderminster businessman who brought the sport back to Birmingham in 2007, has successfully applied for planning permission at the West Yorkshire venue with existing use a major factor. The sport was held at the big bowl regularly from 1985-1997 when the Dukes closed because of plans to develop the stadium which didn't include speedway. But those plans didn't reach fruition and under the terms of existing use planning has been restored for the bikes to return.Said Mole: "I have received notification that the City of Bradford Council have granted planning permission for Speedway to return to Odsal Stadium."The sport was staged without any problems until it was forced to leave because of development plans which never reached fruition."Now we are in a position to move forward and talk further with the Rugby League club and seek approval from the Rugby Football League which I hope won't be a problem."The shape of the track is there and we have had Speedway Control Bureau officials taking a look and we can confirm our track plans meet their specification."I would then need to apply to the British Speedway Promoters' Association at their pre-AGM in September and there is the possibility of applying for the Bradford and Halifax Dukes to ride in the Premier League in 2014."There is still a way to go but this is a major hurdle which has been overcome successfully."
