Proving that powerboat racing and 'going green' can be good bedfellows, there is a new arrival in this year's P1 SuperStock Championship that will be flying the flag for the P1 Marine Foundation. Carrying the name 'Oceans First', the sleek, 28ft race boat was unveiled in Hull today ahead of its first appearance in the UK national championship this weekend. It is also racing in the P1 SuperStock series in the USA.
Welshman James Norvill, owner of a leading waste management and recycling company, is driving the boat on both sides of the Atlantic. He made his first appearance of the season in Florida last month and will be heading back there after the Hull Grand Prix of the Sea to compete at Daytona Beach.
The P1 Marine Foundation, a charity established in 2010 with the aim of safeguarding and restoring the marine and coastal environment, is staging activity at each race event across the summer. This includes beach clean ups and screening environmental films, focusing on engaging with young people.
James and his navigator Jon Collingbourne will join six other P1 SuperStock crews in Race 1 of the P1 SuperStock Championship tomorrow at 13.00pm. Come down to St Andrews Quay in Hull to watch all the action.
