Hong Kong based racing driver and journalist Matthew Marsh will race the VIP car in the opening two rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Thruxton this weekend (10/11 April).
Marsh, who is currently contesting the Carrera Cup Asia, is a feature writer for the South China Morning Post and contributes to a number of major international motoring and motorsport titles. Now, he will debut in Carrera Cup GB in the car entered by Porsche Cars GB and will race in his native Britain for the first time in three seasons.
Having started racing in Formula Ford in 1987, Marsh raced for three seasons before focusing on a media career. He became a guest presenter for the Star TV coverage of F1 as well as being an interviewer and presenter for Asian Festival of Speed.
In 1997, he finally returned to racing in Caterhams in Britain and then contested the European Group N series in 2000 in a BMW M3. He also raced a TVR Tuscan at Silverstone and a Brabham F1 car at the Coys Festival at Silverstone.
For the last two seasons, Matthew has raced in Carrera Cup Asia, taking podium finishes at Beijing and Macau. Already in 2004, he has finished fifth in the Carrera Cup race supporting the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang.
Now, he will turn his attention to the high-speed corners of Thruxton in the VIP entry in Carrera Cup GB. Given his extensive experience of the 911GT3 Cup cars, he should be a leading contender for the opening weekend of the British season.
