Conway sets another record

Mike Conway  headed the testing timesheets at Thruxton, Hampshire, yesterday morning ahead of this weekend’s opening two rounds of the 2004 Formula Renault UK Championship - and in doing so shattered the lap record by a full 1.5 seconds.

The Fortec Motorsport ace continued the form which has seen him dominate each of the five pre-season tests, ending the session with a best lap of 1m 09.262 seconds. This equates to an incredible average lap speed of 122.45mph, breaking Richard Antinucci’s three-year old championship record.

Motaworld Racing’s Oliver Jarvis (Burwell, Cambridgeshire) enjoyed an excellent session with the second fastest time, just two 10ths of a second slower than Conway, while Manor Motorsport’s Josh Weber (Tiverton, Devon) was equally impressive with the third best time.

Westley Barber (Wimbish, Saffron Walden) was fourth for Comtec Racing with a lap of 1m 09.694 seconds while David Epton (Fleet, Hampshire) and Joey Foster (Truro, Cornwall) made it all three Motaworld Racing cars in the top six after finishing in fifth and sixth positions respectively.

It should be noted, some lap times were missed during the session due to a recording failure at the circuit and the timesheets may therefore not give a truly accurate picture.

The first session of Formula Renault UK Championship qualifying is scheduled to take place at 09.00 on Saturday, 10th April, with session two at 13.25. Race One is scheduled to begin at 16.00 on Saturday while Race Two takes place at 14.35 on Sunday, 11th April.
