Future Stars head to Silverstone

The  young  guns  of  world  motor  racing  head  to  Silverstone  next  weekend  (Saturday  17th  & Sunday 18th April) as the UK’s premier motorsport venue hosts round two of the 2004 British Formula 3 Championship. This highly regarded series, seen by many as the final stepping stone to the glamorous world of F1, features some of the most competitive racing in motorsport as drivers battle it out to make a name for themselves.

Racing in the British F3 Championship ranks among the best in the world, and fans can expect an  action-packed  weekend  for  all  the  family.  Previous  winners  include  the  legendary  Ayrton Senna,  Mika  Hakkinen,  Rubens  Barrichello  and  Brit  Johnny  Herbert.  All  graduated  into  F1 having served their apprenticeships on the British F3 circuit. Nelson Piquet Jr. was the 2004 pre-season favourite and, following two second place finishes in the opening round, has already leapt to the top of the Championship.

Having learnt the tracks in 2003, and tested for WilliamsF1 over the winter, ‘Nelsinho’ will be keen to follow in the footsteps of his father Nelson Piquet, who won the British F3 Championship before going on to become three times F1 World Champion.   Piquet will not have it all his own way though. Fans at Silverstone on 18th April will be able to get behind British hopeful Adam Carroll, who kick started his season with a clear statement of intent by  winning  the  opening  race,  and  is  currently  lying  second  in  the  standings.

“I’d  planned  on getting a good start and luckily that happened,” commented Carroll after his first victory of the season. No doubt the British hopeful will be looking for more of the same when he takes to the track at the home of the British Grand Prix. Adding  to  the  excitement  of  this  year’s  Championship  will  be  the  intense  battle  for  team honours.

Carlin  Motorsport  and  Alan  Docking  Racing  have  historically  dominated,  however, 2004 will hopefully see them pushed all the way by the arrival of Menu Motorsport, run by ex- British F3 star Alain Menu. Combined  with  the  presence  of  the  Piquet  Sport  team,  this  year’s  series  will  be  fiercely contested  and  fans  at  Silverstone  can  expect  a  feast  of  top-class  racing  as  the  teams  and drivers go all out to claim maximum points.

In addition to two British F3 races, there will be a host of breathtaking racing from an exciting support   line-up   that   includes   the   Pirelli   Maranello   Ferrari   Challenge,   the   Formula   Ford Championship  and  the  ever  exciting  Zip  Formula.  Completing  the  action  over  a  packed weekend  will  be  the  TVR  Tuscan  Championship  and  home  grown  talent  from  Silverstone Racing School’s BRDC single seater Championship. With so many drivers hungry to impress at the Home of British Motor Racing, Silverstone once again guarantees an unforgettable weekend of entertainment.
