Another BTCC podium for Jordan and Pirtek Racing at Croft
Andrew Jordan and his Pirtek Racing Honda Civic were back on the podium in truly challenging conditions during round 15 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Croft (23 June). Despite a relatively modest day by his own high standards, Andrew maintained second place in the overall standings as the season reached the halfway point. The Pirtek car qualified a strong fifth and then raced to sixth place in the opening race as another huge crowd packed into the North Yorkshire track. That became fifth in the second race as Andrew chased championship leader Matt Neal to the flag.We didnt quite get the car where we needed it for race one, he reported. For race two we made it better. It was raining on the grid and I wanted to go a bit further on softening the car for the conditions. It worked early in the race, but then it didnt rain anymore and over the last five laps we were hurting the front tyres. But wed gone in the right direction. The grid draw for race three put Andrew in fourth slot, but the rain that had been threatening for some time finally arrived just before the third race as a downpour swept across the track. The conditions were really tough as the cars slid around and Andrew did well to keep on the track and move through to third place and another overall podium after chasing the BMW of Colin Turkington over the second half of the race.Race three was so wet and horrible and I cant say I massively enjoyed it, he said later. It was good to get a podium in a race like that but the aquaplaning was horrible down the straights. The track at Croft is bumpy and so the water collects in the dips. Then it cleared a bit, but about three laps from the end the rain came back and it really made a difference. I had a big moment at Tower and decided to back if off for the last couple of laps. Matt Neal nearly had a massive off on the last lap at the Jim Clark Esses. The days results leave Andrew second to Neal in the overall points, although the gap has grown to 19 points. Jason Plato and Gordon Shedden are 17 points behind Andrew. We just lacked a little bit on ultimate pace this weekend, but if you still get reasonable points on your not so good days, thats okay, said Andrew. The BTCC can be won on your bad days! There is still such a long way to go. Weve got another half to do and as long as we can keep being up there and scoring good points, were in the battle.
