EASTBOURNE manager Trevor Geer says his team must respond positively to recent setbacks when they host Peterborough in the Elite League on Saturday. The Eagles lost their unbeaten home record against Poole a fortnight ago with the Pirates recording a string of advantages in the second half of the meeting to win 55-35.Geer said: We were completely overwhelmed against Poole and as the 5-1s went in our heads dropped a bit. Poole taught us a very hard lesson and now the boys must respond and restore some pride for themselves and the team.It was a performance that just was not good enough and fans can be assured we are taking a long hard look at ourselves. We cannot afford another result like that.

SHEFFIELD will take a four-point lead to Newcastle for the second leg of their League Cup semi-finalafter a stunning Heat 15 ride from Richard Hall.Hall got the better of Richie Worrall and Stuart Robson to secure a 47-43 win for the Tigers, and both clubs were relatively happy with the outcome of an entertaining clash at Owlerton.Sheffield boss David Hoggart said: It was a great meeting, a good crowd and a fantastic atmosphere. The boys rode their hearts out and each and every one of them contributed to the win, we know that we have a challenge in front of us on Sunday but weve got a chance.Newcastle manager George English said: This was well above our average performance at Sheffield and we have to be satisfied with the effort put in as there were some good points scored by our lads. It obviously puts us in a good shape for Sunday's second leg, but again we're not counting chickens till the last heat is run.(SPEEDWAY 3)
SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey is looking for the reigning Premier League Champions to boost their play-off challenge with two meetings this weekend. The Scorpions have won their last two home matches convincingly but Newcastle are expected to provide a tough test on Friday before the Lincolnshire club head to Berwick on Saturday.Godfrey said: Speedway is a confidence game and weve had two good wins against Sheffield and Glasgow the last two weeks.Since Thomas Jrgensen came back from injury, it just seems to be the catalyst for everyone kicking on. I hope this is it now, and this weekend we can put some more points on the board.

PLYMOUTH and Rye House have both called upon the services of Peterborough Elite League riders to cover for their injured No.1s in Fridays Premier League clash at the St Boniface Arena. The Devils have recruited Dakota North as cover for the sidelined Ty Proctor, whilst Olly Allens place for the Rockets is to be taken by Nicolai Klindt.Plymouth co-promoter David Short said: Rye House have been very unlucky with injuries this season but are still able to field a strong looking side and must not be under estimated.Their performance when they won here in the League Cup shows there can be no room for complacency. I fully expect a closely fought match.
