Jonathon Cocker returned to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Thruxton over the Easter weekend (10/11 April) and will also contest the next two rounds at Brands Hatch. Having finished fourth in the overall championship in 2003, Cocker started his 2004 campaign with two top eight finishes.
The 17-year old took his seat in a 2004 car at Red Line Racing as initially planned in autumn 2003. “We’ll do the first two weekends in Carrera Cup and see how it goes from there,” he said.
However, if budgets can be secured, there is a real chance that Cocker could complete the Carrera Cup season. “We’re delighted to have him back,” said team boss Simon Leonard. “We expected him to be right up there and we’d love to run him for the rest of the season.” With Nigel Rice scoring a superb podium finish in the second race of the day, it was a fine start to the season for the Red Line team.
Cocker will dovetail his Carrera Cup programme with his existing British GT campaign.
Only one British GT date clashes with the Carrera Cup calendar, when the GT series goes to Mondello Park on May 8/9 while Carrera Cup is at Silverstone over the same weekend.
