Organisers of the 2004 Kwik-Fit Pirelli British Rally Championship are bringing entrants even more in the way of competition with the British Super 1600 Championship. The excitement is already building for the Pirelli International Rally which kicks off the Championship in Gateshead and with the additional incentive of the Super 1600, entrants will have everything to play for.
The British Super 1600 Championship carries the official British title recognition for the first time in 2004 and there has already been a huge amount of interest from competitors keen to lift the new crown. Greenlight Television, the television rights holders for the BRC, will be putting the spotlight on the battle for the new British series with a stand alone television programme featuring the Championship on Channel 4 and Men & Motors.
Mark Taylor, Championship Manager comments, The British Super 1600 Championship will be an exciting category and we are looking forward to seeing the teams pulling out all the stops to win this inaugural official British Super 1600 series. BRC Licensing Limited applied to the MSA for official British title recognition for the Super 1600 category at the end of last year. We wanted to widen the appeal of the category as a superb opportunity for young talent to grow and learn the craft of rallying at an International level and there are already more than 10 competitors and amazingly 7 different marques of car entered specifically for this trophy.
I believe this is one of the biggest fields in Europe as reliable sources report that there are less than half a dozen entries in German and Belgium Championships which have been traditionally seen good entry levels in this category.
The anticipation for the BRC is already reaching fever pitch and the interest in the British Super 1600 Championship will ensure there will be enough action to keep everyone on the edge of their seats.
