PROCAR Nations Cup on Channel 9

Motor racing legend Peter Brock will be behind a microphone instead of a steering wheel when one of Australia’s fastest motor racing series, the Australian Nations Cup Championship for GT sports cars, features on the national Nine Network for the first time next Saturday.

The 10-time Bathurst champion will co-host 24 one-hour PROCAR Champ Series programs on Channel Nine this season, joining an on-air team that also includes two of the best-known personalities in motorsport television, Darrel Eastlake and Mike Raymond.

Saturday’s one-hour show, starting at 12.30 pm, covers the exciting action from round one of the Nations Cup run during Adelaide’s recent Clipsal 500 event – but it may be the only occasion Brock does not star also as a driver.

Brock stood aside in Adelaide to give his son James the feel of the famous 05# Nations Cup Holden Monaro - and a taste of the intense competition from the likes of Lamborghini star Paul Stokell and Ferrari’s Allan Simonsen - but has now resumed racing.

In a rolling schedule between now and November, Nine will host the Nations Cup, Australian GT Performance Championship for touring cars and V8 BRutes Series for utes, which all are part of the PROCAR Champ Series events.

PROCAR chief commentator Grant Boyden will share hosting duties with Brock for the Nations Cup and GT Performance, while Wade Aunger will join The Legend for V8 BRutes telecasts.

As well as producing all the shows, Boyden will call all the races – with Raymond and professional racing driver Cameron McConville for Nations Cup and GT Performance and with Eastlake and Aunger for the V8 BRutes Series.

Daniel Gibson is pit reporter.

Boyden says the 2004 shows promise to take the presentation of the PROCAR Champ Series on television to new levels.

“I’m really excited about our commentary team for this year. It will combine a lot of racing experience with excitement and enthusiasm,” he said.

“Darrel Eastlake’s passion for racing is second to none and he’ll be perfect in the V8 BRutes Series.

“Mike Raymond’s motorsport knowledge and concise style of commentary fits ideally with Nations Cup and GT Performance.”

The PROCAR Champ Series’ other categories, the Australian Production Car Championship, Australian Formula 3 Championship and Futureracers Series, are shown on the SBS network’s Speedweek program.

Formula 3 races from last weekend’s Oran Park round will be shown this Saturday from 4.30 pm.

All PROCAR Champ Series races are shown also on the Fox Sports cable network.

Broadcast schedules for Channel Nine, SBS Speedweek and Fox Sports can be viewed at procar.com.au, but viewers should check local guides for updated times.
