World Series by Nissan team KTR had a disappointing outing at the team's geographical home track of Zolder, Belgium. Neither Didier André, nor Bruce Jouanny were contenders throughout the weekend as the team struggled to understand the cars. Team principal Kurt Mollekens, however, remained philosophical as a test session is scheduled in Magny-Cours in two weeks' time. At the same time, he accepted the fact that the team might have let the drivers down, as well as the other way around.
"We just weren't fast enough all weekend," Mollekens said. "Which came as a surprise to us as both Didier and Bruce were quick in testing in Barcelona and Jarama, and the track in Zolder is not that different from those. The base set-up to work from should have been good, but it wasn't and we never quite figured out why."
In qualifying both drivers placed on the second part of the grid, starting the races between seventh and 12th places both times. Bruce Jouanny had his fastest time for the first race cancelled as it was set when the yellow flags were out somewhere on the course. In the races both KTR drivers had barely more luck. "Bruce made it to fifth in race one, which bagged us some points, while Didier spun and finished 13th. In the second race Bruce's efforts came to naught when he clipped another car in the opening lap, while Didier was just too slow and finished 11th. As a team we probably let our drivers down a bit, but equally they couldn't tell us either why we were off the pace. I hope we can get things sorted in testing at Magny-Cours and be competitive again for that race," Mollekens concluded.
