With only one week to go before the Days of Thunder Championship kicks off at Rockingham, Corby based Team Catchpole face a race against time to rebuild team leader Phil Weaver's car. During Saturday's pre-race test session the Southampton based driver crashed heavily at Turn 3. He was unhurt but the car was virtually destroyed. "It was brain fade, it's destroyed the rear of the chassis and moved the front by an inch. As I hit the wall there was a flash of fuel vapour, before the axle, propshaft, gearbox, left hand suspension, steering rack etc, etc were also destroyed," he explained.Both Rockingham Motor Speedway and rivals Torquespeed Racing are helping crew chief Jason locate the more obscure parts, which includes airfreighting from the States. "The roof is the only part of the body undamaged," added Phil. On top of an engine failure last week, the seasons budget is seriously dented and the team are desperately seeking further backing.
