BMW WilliamsF1 Team drivers, Ralf Schumacher and Marc Gene, topped the timesheets at Silverstone as heavy rain disrupted testing yesterday. A typical English spring day saw constant, heavy rain which caused serious disruption to the second day of testing at the Silverstone Circuit as the BMW WilliamsF1 Team prepares for next week's Spanish Grand Prix.
So bad were the conditions that most of the drivers on duty completed only a handful of laps, though both BMW WilliamsF1 Team drivers both completed more than fifty.
Due to the conditions, Ralf and Marc focused on wet set-ups in addition to evaluating tyre compounds and various rain tyres for Michelin.
Ralf completed 52 laps, posting a best time of 1:30.282, while Marc completed 57 laps with a best time of 1:30.997.
Tim Newton (Test Team Manager, WilliamsF1): "Despite less than perfect conditions at Silverstone, Ralf and Marc managed to set the fastest times of the day and complete the most laps. With a wet track at our disposal, we worked on developing our wet race strategies and testing Michelin’s full and intermediate wet tyres. We also completed some systems and electronics checks on the FW26 in preparation for Barcelona." Times POS. - DRIVER - TEAM - TIME - LAPS 1. R. Schumacher BMW WilliamsF1 Team 1:30.282 52 2. M.
