Horizon launches multi-car Porsche Open squad
Horizon Motorsport has announced details of its multi-car line-up for the Michelin Porsche Open Series. Starting from the next round at Silverstone on 15 May, the Cradley Heath team will have a major presence in the series and could field as many as five cars if current plans are realised.
The team, headed by respected Porsche engineer Mike Foster, will run three 944 Turbos and is set to enter one, and possibly a second, 911 GT3 Cup car as the season progresses.
Under the Track Torque Racing banner, Horizon will run the 944s for Simon Mifsud, Clive Reay-Young and Gordon Matthews. In addition, the 911GT3 of former BTC Production racer Nick James will contest selected Open races and Foster is currently in discussion regarding a second 911 GT3.
Mifsud, from Stourbridge, did half a dozen races with Horizon last season as his entry into the sport and is now planning to contest most of the Open races. Matthews has several years experience from Caterham Roadsports, while Yorkshireman Reay-Jones is a racing newcomer.
"We're hoping to get all three 944s out for Silverstone and we could be up to five cars later in the season," says Foster. In addition, Foster will return to Malaysia in late August to manage a Porsche entry in a 12-hour race.
