Tony Brown has unveiled plans to race in the Michelin Porsche Open Series this year in a 964RSR. He will also team up with his old Porsche Club Championship rival Colin Broster in several British GT races.
"By this time of year I have usually done plenty of testing and a race or two in an attempt to win another Porsche championship," says Brown. "However, with the arrival of my baby son Thomas on 14th April, race plans and commitment will be a little different this year!"
Brown has acquired a 1993 964RSR from Germany, which was built as a spare car and has only ever been used on track days to date. He will contest class two of the Open series, starting at Silverstone on 15 May.
"The car will need some development and time for me to get used to the increased power and grip, but hopefully we will be competing with the more modern GT3 Cup cars before long," he says. Harvey Racing, the team that has taken Brown to two Porsche titles and two runner-up positions in the last 6 years, will run the car.
Alongside the Open campaign, Brown will be tackling selected rounds of the British GT Championship in a 911 GT3 Cup car with Broster. "Colin and I had probably one of the closest contests ever in Porsche Club racing last year and he invited me to join him this year," says the Dorset-based racer.
Their first GT race together will be at Castle Combe in June. "We have respect for one another and it will be good to race together and be part of the same team this year," says Brown.
