Terrestrial Coverage Confirmed

Action from the Formula Renault UK Championship and ELF/BTE Lawline Renault Clio Cup will hit terrestrial television screens later this month after confirmation magazine programme Motorsport UK will be transmitted once again on Britain’s prime commercial channel ITV1.

The half-hour show, expected to be broadcast at a vastly improved time slot of either 01.00 hours or 01.30 hours, proved highly popular with viewers last year as the Renault championships attracted best-ever figures with more than four million people tuning in to the terrestrial programmes throughout the year.

Granada Sport’s announcement of the Motorsport UK package ensures Formula Renault UK and the ELF/BTE Lawline Renault Clio Cup will receive tremendous exposure once again across both terrestrial and satellite platforms – both championships already enjoying 100 per cent live coverage on the Sunday of nine TOCA Tour rounds in 2004 through Motors TV, channel 416 on Sky Digital.

Clio Cup racing from the opening round of the season at Thruxton in Hampshire will be the first of the Renault championships featured on Motorsport UK this year, the opening programme to be broadcast on Sunday, 23rd May. In a further boost this show, along with two subsequent ones, will be dedicated solely to Clio Cup action.

The first Formula Renault UK coverage on ITV1 this year will be on Sunday, 30th May, and will share billing with another category from the TOCA Tour. Formula Renault will have two dedicated programmes this year, the rest to be shared, and Motorsport UK will run at regular intervals until mid-November.

For a full listing of the projected Motorsport UK broadcast dates, and any up-to-date amendments, please visit www.renaultsport.co.uk and look under ‘television’ in the either the Formula Renault UK or Clio Cup sections of the website. Scheduling isn’t expected to change but may on occasion as ITV1 accommodates the Euro 2004 football championships.

Speaking on the terrestrial coverage, Renault UK Championship Manager Simon North commented: “Motorsport UK always proves to be very popular with the viewers and it’s essential for ourselves, competitors and sponsors that we receive terrestrial coverage on ITV1 alongside the live coverage on Motors TV, which itself is a dream come true.

“Our TV package once again offers a fantastic opportunity for sponsors to increase awareness and involvement. We’re delighted to continue the partnership with Granada Sport who have done an excellent job with the coverage for the last few years.”
