Tom Chilton Silverstone preview

This weekend the Touring Car Championship moves to Silverstone, a circuit Tom loves to race at and one he feels will suit his Honda Civic Type R …….

The third race weekend of the year will see the International Circuit at Silverstone play host to the British Touring Car Championship for rounds 7,8 and 9 and Tom is really looking forward to this one;

" I enjoy Silverstone a lot. It has a good mix of really fast corners and a lot of technical ones too. More than anything, it is a fantastic track to race on with lots of overtaking opportunities.  I had two great races here last year and I think it will be a strong track for the Hondas again. Not just mine, but all of them. Matt Neal will be quick here as he was last year and he will be a big challenge to me, particularly in qualifying as he will be lighter than me with -15 kgs of ballast. I am on -9 kgs and lighter than the works Vauxhalls, so I can see a battle for pole position in qualifying. It is always close, but I have a good chance here. "

After Tom's strong performance at Brands Hatch two weeks ago, his and the team's confidence is growing and they expect another strong showing at Silverstone;

" I want to qualify well, hopefully on the front row. Then the target has to be to get on the podium. If we achieve that, then the reverse grid format makes getting another podium finish in the second race very difficult, especially with the success ballast on board.  But if I can finish top six in the second race, then another podium has to be the aim in the third race. This would be an ideal scenario and I would come away with around 30 points. That is what I would like to achieve, but we will have to wait and see. "

Qualifying begins on Saturday afternoon, with all three races on Sunday. Live TV coverage will be screened by Motors TV on Sky.
