Classic Carnage at Wimbledon

Spedeworth International will have those who love to restore old cars sobbing into their beer when the Goldie Oldie Night (open to pre-1970 Bangers) takes place at Wimbledon Stadium on Sunday May 16th at 6pm.

The classics that have reached the end of the road (and are well beyond the point of reasonable restoration) will be racing in two categories, under 1800cc and above 1800cc. No Jaguar XJ Series will be allowed on the night, so those who restore old Jags can rest easy. However, lovers of the big American automobiles may want to avoid the Wimbledon area as the giant pre-1970 freeway cruisers are eligible to compete.

Classic British iron will also be in attendance, as drivers raid barns, sheds and scrap yards the length of the land to locate the last remaining Austin Cambridges, Morris Oxfords and Humber Hawks to take to the track and head for the scrap yard in the sky in a blaze of glory.

Awards will be presented to the Oldest, Rarest and Best Prepared cars, which has led to some very interesting classics appearing at Plough Lane on Golden Oldie Night. Naturally their status as classics cuts little ice with the drivers and it is not too long before they are reduced to scrap metal.

Sadly, this will be the fate for all the classics as the event closes with a last car left moving demolition derby, which will reduce any survivors to crumpled heaps by the time the last chequered flag of the evening falls.

The classic Bangers will be supported by the all-action Brisca Formula 1 Stock Cars. These awesome machines literally shake the stadium as their massive American V8 engines unwind and the sight and sound of a pack of them in action at Plough Lane is one that is not easily forgotten.

With a field of classics, plus the mighty Brisca F1 Stock Cars in full bore action Spedeworth will deliver another night's great racing at Wimbledon Stadium, Britain's finest stock car racing circuit.
