Tom Chilton has won the third of Sunday's three Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship rounds at Silverstone in his Team Honda Civic Type R. In doing so, 19-year-old Chilton becomes the youngest race winner in BTCC history.
Chilton took control of the race when WSR driver Anthony Reid’s MG ZS collided with Matt Neal’s Computeach Racing with Halfords Honda Civic as they disputed the lead. Both drivers went off the track. Reid rejoined to finish second while Neal dropped to eighth.
“When I saw them tangle up ahead I just kept cool and drove past. Now I’ve proved I can do it – I’m a winner,” said Chilton.
Finishing third and fourth were SEAT Sport UK team-mates Jason Plato and Robert Huff, in their Toledo Cupras.
James Thompson, who started the race from pole position but with maximum ballast aboard his Vauxhall Astra, took seventh to move into the championship lead. His team-mate Yvan Muller, with whom he was tied on points prior to Silverstone, failed to start the race after his Astra suffered engine problems on its way to the grid.
