Tom Loomes named Renault MSA Young Photographer of the Year

The Motor Sports Association (MSA) is delighted to announce that Tom Loomes has been named the Renault MSA Young Motor Sport Photographer of the Year 2013.

Established in 2002 in association with Renault UK, the award is designed to recognise the most promising photographers aged 25 or under working within British motor sport.

Loomes, aged 21 from Mickleover in Derby, holds a national diploma in photography and first began shooting motor sport in 2011. His award submission comprised a stunning selection of images covering the MSA British Touring Car Championship, British GT Championship and Wales Rally GB.

Loomes, said: “I was in shock when I was told that I’d won the award! I knew the competition would be fierce, as there are lots of great young motor sport photographers out there trying to make a name for themselves, so I wasn’t expecting to win at all. However I’m really delighted and honoured to have won and I hope it creates some great career opportunities for me in the future.”

Loomes will collect his trophy and a cheque for £1000 at the MSA Night of Champions ceremony at the Royal Automobile Club in London on 18 January 2014. His images will also be framed and hung at Motor Sports House and the Royal Automobile Club, and he receives a year’s free associate membership of the Guild of Motoring Writers (GoMW), an association of automotive editorial professionals.

Adam Pigott, aged 21 from Lincolnshire, was judged Highly Commended for his impressive selection of sportscar and GT racing images. He also receives associate membership of the GoMW.
