After a traditionally low turn-out for the season opening meeting at Rockingham, the Dunlop Supersports Championship bounced back strongly with more than twice as many cars on the grid at Croft over the weekend (15/16 May).
In all, 14 cars lined up at Croft, and series promoter, the National Supersports Association, is confident that more cars will join the series as the season develops. At least two more cars are expected for rounds five and six at Snetterton on May 30/31, and with dates to follow at Brands Hatch, Donington and Silverstone, the balance of the season should be well supported.
"For the second season in succession the opening round at Rockingham has proved to be a turn-off for competitors," says NSA chairman Mike Swinnerton.
"Croft is hardly an easy trip for most drivers but the entry was very encouraging and points to an even stronger grid for Snetterton at the end of May. So many other championships seem to be going downhill, so our improving situation is putting a smile back on everyone's face."
Drivers making their Supersports debut at Croft included Tim Covill (Mallock P20) and Oliver Vaulkhard (Radical Prosport), while the stunning new Chirons of Doug Hart and Peter Hobday both added to the highly encouraging grid.
