Renowned single-seater motor racing team Fortec Motorsport will be an integral part of the Protyre Formula Renault Championship once again in 2014 after today, Friday, 14th February, confirming its commitment to running a multi-car entry in the series.
The Daventry squad, which won the 2012 Protyre Formula Renault Winter Series title with Seb Morris before steering Malaysian racer Weiron Tan to the Vice-Champion’s position in the main championship battle last year, is poised to announce a three-car team for the new season.
Currently in advanced discussions with a number of drivers, Fortec isn’t ruling out a capacity four-car line-up for Protyre Formula Renault this year – a category the team acknowledges as the “best junior single-seater championship in the UK.”
Pledging its support to the popular and cost-effective series, the team aims to officially confirm its first driver signings in the next few weeks as well as naming a new team manager and co-ordinator for its Protyre Formula Renault outfit in due course.
“It seems as though people have been getting the wrong idea we’re not racing in Protyre Formula Renault this year – that couldn’t be further from the truth”, commented chief engineer Daniel Mitchell, “Fortec fully supports the championship and we’ll definitely be running a three car team, possibly four drivers.
“Protyre Formula Renault is the best junior single-seater championship in the UK, it’s the best place for young drivers to learn and that’s why Fortec has been, and continues to be, a strong supporter of the category. We’ve got extra TV coverage this year, a strong 15 race calendar and some good triple headers. We’ll be working as hard as ever in Renault this season – we’ll be in it to win it.”
Championship promoter Simon North says the continued support of such a highly regarded team as Fortec is vitally important for Protyre Formula Renault, and the team’s commitment to the category underlines the series’ key position in the UK single-seater market.
“We really are thrilled to see Fortec committing once again to Protyre Formula Renault, the team has been an integral part of the success of the championship in recent years”, said North, “Fortec clearly sees and understands the importance our championship plays in the development of young drivers, to hear such glowing support is fantastic for all concerned.”
Beginning at Rockingham in early April with the opening three rounds of the campaign, the Protyre Formula Renault Championship will reach its conclusion at the end of September as support to the British Touring Car Championship event at Silverstone. Enjoying live television coverage on ITV4 for the finale, the series will also be featured live on Motors TV in August at Snetterton.
Along with headline sponsor Protyre, Formula Renault is additionally supported by Michelin.
