Diego Menchaca returns to BRDC F4 Championship with Douglas Motorsport

Mexican Diego Menchaca has confirmed he will return to the BRDC F4 Championship in 2014, switching to the Winter Championship-winning Douglas Motorsport team with front running ambitions after a competitive season in 2013.

The Escuderia Telmex backed driver finished 11th overall in F4 in 2013, including a strong second place finish at the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit in July and 12 additional top 10 finishes from the 24 races.

The 19-year-old also competed in selected rounds of the Formula Renault BARC Championship last year, having competed in the series in 2012. Menchaca will focus solely on BRDC F4 in 2014.

Diego began his career in karting in 2006, and claimed several championship victories in Mexico before stepping up to race cars. Prior to competing in the UK, Menchaca raced in South America in the Latin American Challenge F2000 category, finishing third overall in 2011 before moving to the UK in 2012.

“I’m really pleased to continue in the BRDC F4 Championship in 2014” Menchaca commented. “The series proved itself as the most competitive category to compete in last year and with my experience from last season I really hope to be fighting for wins and of course the Championship this year. Douglas Motorsport proved they are a front running team during the Winter Championship, and I am really looking forward to working with them in 2014 and I´m sure they will give me the right tools to accomplish our objectives. I’d like to thank Escuderia Telmex, my sponsors, family and friends for their continued support, and I’m sure we can be challenging at the front in F4 this year.”

Team Principal Wayne Douglas said: “It is great to welcome Diego to the team. Having watched his progress last season we hope he can be running at the front from the first round. Diego arrives in the UK in early March and we have an extensive test program in place from that point. We feel we have a very strong driver line-up with Diego and Charlie Eastwood and are very much aiming for the title to add to our Winter Championship success from last year.”
