Leading BRDC Formula 4 Championship team SWR is delighted to today, Friday, 28th February, confirm impressive Danish single-seater racer Nicolas Beer will make his UK race debut with the squad in the popular one-make category.
Bringing even more international flavour to the multiple race-winning Chipping Norton squad, with the 17-year-old from Hellerup joining recently announced Venezuelan driver Diego Borrelli, SWR is set for another strong season in 2014 after a sensational maiden year of competition last year.
Beer arrives in the UK for his third year of single-seater competition with a very healthy racing CV, not least his 2013 campaign in the ADAC Formel Masters where he ended the season fourth overall with two race victories and six other podiums.
After becoming DASU Formula Junior Cup Karting Champion in 2007, Beer went on to race in the KF3 class at European level and concluded the 2009 DASU Danish Super Kart KF3 season as Vice-Champion and in 2010 was crowned DASU Danish Super Kart KF3 Champion.
Winning the Viking Trophy KF3 Karting title in 2010, the Dane graduated into the WSK Euro Series KF2 Karting class the following year before making his single-seater debut in 2012 where he won races in Formula Ford Denmark and gained additional experience in Formula Ford NEZ, the Austrian Formel 1600 Cup and through a part campaign in the ADAC Formel Masters.
“I’m really happy to be joining SWR for my first season in BRDC Formula 4, I can’t wait for the season to start”, said Beer, “Last year was very strong, I had some wins and a lot of podiums and I want to be fighting like that in F4 as soon as I can. The guys at SWR run a fantastic team and I know they’re going to give me a great car. Even though I don’t know the UK circuits, I’m confident we’ll do well.”
Oxfordshire’s SWR hit the ground running during the inaugural BRDC Formula 4 Championship season last year, instantaneously becoming one of the standout teams and establishing itself as one of the most professional at junior single-seater level.
The squad, owned by EuroFormula Open racer Sean Walkinshaw, claimed its maiden F4 race victory on the opening weekend of the 2013 campaign with Jack Barlow and went on to secure three more wins during the season – one more with Barlow and two with Matty Graham.
Commenting on Beer’s arrival at SWR, team owner Walkinshaw said: “We’re delighted Nicolas has signed for the team this year, he’s a very talented driver and has already got some good experience in Formula Ford and the ADAC Formel Masters.
“He’s proven himself as a race winner and we’re sure he’s going to be a very competitive driver in Formula 4. We’ve really got the makings of a very strong young team for the new season, I’m sure Nicolas and Diego will be consistent front-runners.”
Rounds one, two and three of the 2014 BRDC Formula 4 Championship will be contested at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit on 26th/27th April. The category will once again benefit from highlights television coverage in the UK on ITV4 throughout the year, with the addition of footage available online at the ITV Player as well as on mobile devices.
