Mexican Rodrigo Fonseca completes three car Douglas Motorsport F4 line up

Mexican karter Rodrigo Fonseca has confirmed he will race in the BRDC F4 Championship in 2014, completing a three car line-up at Douglas Motorsport alongside countryman Diego Menchaca and Irishman Charlie Eastwood.

The 17-year-old has been karting for three years and has claimed three championship titles in that period. Fonseca, like Menchaca, is part of the prestigious Escuderia Telmex programme, and was the champion of the Telmex KF2 Karting Challenge in 2013 in Mexico, also claiming title honours in the Karting Leon category and finishing third overall in the SKUSA Mexico series. Fonseca ended his season by participating in the Super Nationals at Las Vegas where he finished 12th overall out of over 600 drivers.

Fonseca also took the Karting Leon title in 2012, and finished fifth overall in SKUSA Mexico despite only competing in selected rounds. The 17-year old began karting in 2011 and was placed fifth in the Karting Leon series.

The Mexican now steps into cars for the first time, and is eagerly awaiting his debut. “I’m very excited to be doing BRDC Formula 4,” he commented. “This is going to be a year of learning for me as it’s my first season in cars and it’s also going to be a new experience as I’m living away from home for the first time! By the third or fourth round I’d like to be challenging towards the front of the field and at the end of the season I aim be classified as the top rookie.”

Team Principal Wayne Douglas enthused: “It’s great to confirm Rodrigo and complete our line-up for this year’s F4 Championship. It’s excellent for Douglas Motorsport and Formula 4 to have another driver from Escuderia Telmex join the series. Rodrigo will be working closely with our engineers throughout the season and we’re confident that he will progress very strongly as the year goes on.”
