RSAC Scottish Rally

Six Rallies - Three days - 11-13 June 2004

The 2004 RSAC Scottish Rally offers competitors a choiceof six events over the three days, catering for Historic,International, National and Clubmans competitors - entriesare filling up fast and competitors are reminded that entriesclose on Tuesday 25 May. Clerk of the Course Jonathan Lordcommented: "We'll happily accommodate competitors whowant to take part in several events! It's possible to do theInternational event on Friday & Saturday and, assuming the carpasses scrutineering, take part in the Scottish National eventon Sunday. Similarly, a competitor could do the Saturday eventin one car and then the Historic event in another!"

The International event will bring competitors from the Kwik-FitPirelli British Rally Championship to Dumfries, for the thirdround of the series. Championship leader David Higgins waslast seen in these forests in 2002, when he finished third todefending British Champion Jonny Milner, so a good battlebetween the two is on the cards. Jonny won the Scottish forthe past two years - can he make it a third? No one has wonthe Scottish three years in a row - not even Roger Clark, despite winning the event six times.

There will be particular Scottish interest in several of thecrews, including Lorna Smith, contesting the popular Productioncategory in a Subaru. Lorna suffered a setback in Wales whenshe failed to finish with mechanical problems. The Stilo Cupboasts two Scottish drivers - series leader, William Bonniwelland local Dumfries man, Tom Metcalfe.

The RSAC Scottish Rally also forms part of the County SaabScottish Rally Championship. Crews have already completedthree events with defending Champion Raymond Munro leadingthe pack into the Scottish.

For the eighth successive year the rally will be based inDumfries in south-west Scotland, this year being the first ofa new three-year agreement between RSAC Motorsport andthe Council, which will see the partnership extended to tenyears in total.

Spectators will have plenty to look forward to, with the newBorder Cars Mitsubishi Super Special at Heathhall andRallyshow in Dumfries complementing the traditional foreststages through the Dumfries & Galloway area.

Programmes can be purchased online at brcweb.co.ukwith presales at 0870 744 0710 and at local outlets duringthe week preceding the event (phone 0141 887 9905 forinformation). £1 from every programme sold will go to Cashfor Kids.
