Porsche Club double-header

Rounds four and five of the 2004 Michelin Porsche Club Championship will run at Snetterton over the weekend of 22/23 May and if the racing is anything like as good as round three at Silverstone, the East Anglian fans are in for a real treat.

Race wins at Croft in April when the season opened were shared between Chris Egginton (968CS) and John Williams (3.2 Carrera), but Peter Morris won a truly epic contest at Silverstone in the other 968CS from Team GVR. With as many as seven cars in the thick of a mighty lead battle, the Silverstone race was one of the best in the history of the championship.

However, with three second places in a row, it is Ian White (3.2 Carrera) who currently holds the class one championship lead. White reckons that his two weakest tracks are now behind him, and he is certainly determined to get his first win of the season at Snetterton. But with the storming pace of the 968s in recent races, White and the rest of the Carrera pack have a big fight on their hands.

Other leading runners in class one include Richard Harrison (3.2 Carrera) and Mark Lillington in the 968CS with which Tony Brown contested the 2003 title race. However, Silverstone marked the 2004 debut for Craig Rapp in his 3.2 Carrera and the Londoner was immediately on the pace and challenging for the lead until he picked up a puncture. Craig has traditionally been quick at Snetterton, and will certainly be one of the pre-race favourites.

Richard Lambert (Carrera 3) dominated class two at Croft and even finished third overall in the second race, having run well up with the more powerful class on cars. Lambert played his joker at Croft, which doubled his championship score in the opening race and put him straight into the overall championship lead. Silverstone was not so good, however, as a concern about the health of his engine forced Lambert to drive to third as Tom Segrue (944S2) and Rob Williams (Carrera) had a great battle for the class lead. Segrue just got the verdict!

Fraser Robertson (944) is currently setting a cracking pace in class three to lead the division, with wins at Croft and Silverstone although his opening race at Croft ended in a tangle with the tyre wall! The 911Es of David Fissenden and Chris Stewart are chasing the 944 and enjoyed an excellent battle at Silverstone.
