Media Training for racing drivers

The Mid-Ohio School is proud to announce that it will be the exclusive home of The Parker Johnstone School of Media Training. “This is a unique and creative concept,” commented Michelle Trueman, President of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

“There are a number of driving schools that teach proficiency behind the wheel, but none that covers that most important component of today’s race car driver: how to deal with the media, sponsors and public relation activities.

A driver’s career depends as much on how they conduct themselves out of the car as in the car.  And Parker’s experience, as both a championship driver and his recognized ability in the broadcast booth, will give the students the benefit of his expertise on both sides of the microphone.” The curriculum will be taught in one-day courses scheduled from June to the end of October at The Mid-Ohio School.

The media training school days will be split between being held in conjunction with already scheduled race events at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, and as stand-alone days.

In addition to Parker’s driving and broadcasting abilities, Matthew Ilas will employ his twenty years of award winning motorsports videography to teach the students how to conduct themselves in front of the camera, and Brian Wagner will add his fifteen years of championship caliber motorsports public relations to the teaching mix.

“The Mid-Ohio School has a reputation for personalized attention to their students,” said Parker Johnstone.  “They value helping aspiring drivers and giving something back to the sport.  Our media training school is fashioned to work within that tradition.  There has been a long-term need for media training for both new and current drivers, and we are pleased to be able to offer this under the aegis of The Mid-Ohio School. Our media training will complement The Mid-Ohio School’s on track education. "We like to think of ourselves as a finishing school for drivers, in effect, how to be a complete driver in today’s media driven world.” The Mid-Ohio School has something for everyone, offering ten different courses ranging from the Honda Teen Defensive Driving Program, to its Competition Course for amateur and professional racers.

The School is based at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, OH, and is the country’s most competitive and demanding road course. The instructors are driving experts and accomplished racers with over 150 race wins and twenty professional championships to their credit.
