A brave stroke survivor from Sherburn-in-Elmet, Leeds, has overcome all odds to take part in two gruelling fundraising events, to raise money for the Stroke Association.Eric Chitty, 46, will take part in the Total Warrior 10km at Bramham Park on Saturday 21 June where he'll have to overcome 30 punishing obstacles including 'The Human BBQ,' 'The Plunge,' 'The Shocker' and 'Worm Muncher', to name a few. This will provide the ultimate test of strength, stamina, mental determination and team work. Eric has also recruited a team of eight friends to take part alongside him. He'll then complete a second 10km course on Saturday 2 August at Shap Abbey, in the Lake District.A keen motorcyclist, Eric was involved in a serious motorbike crash in March 2010, while practising for the National Endurance Championships. Eric had a broken neck and major head trauma, resulting in him having four strokes over a series of days. He spent five weeks in hospital, where he had to learn to walk and talk again.Eric said: "After plenty of physiotherapy and speech therapy, plus sheer determination, I'm now recovering well. Having experienced first-hand how much a stroke can change your life, I'd like to help others with their recovery. I was keen to raise funds and awareness for the Stroke Association because of the incredible work the charity does to support stroke survivors and their families."I learnt to run again 18 months after my stroke with the help of a personal trainer and wanted to really challenge myself this year. The Total Warrior events were the ideal choice as I've never run a distance further than a mile before.
