George Russell and Matevos Isaakyan top Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS test at Imola

Earlier this week Imola hosted two intense test days with Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS teams joined.

24 drivers are looking forward to the first venue of the Fast Lane Promotion Series on the same track on the 5/6 April weekend.

George Russell, new entry with Prema, was very fast and capable of the quickest time in the last session with 1’41”663. This is 635 thousands quicker than last year's pole position. Under the spotlights also was JD Motorsport's Russian signingMatevos Isaakyan, racing for the SMP Racing Program, setting the fastest lap on Tuesday of 1’42”235.

Eight teams were in the top ten positions at the end of the second day. Third overall was Charles Leclerc, with Fortec Motorsports.

Always quick were the two Italians Matteo Cairoli (“new-entry” for GSK Grand Prix) and Dario Capitanio, once more this year with BVM Racing.

Andrew Tang put in good times for Jenzer Motorsport, as did Luke Chudleigh in his second year with Tech 1 Racing and team mate Hugo De Sadeleer

Also in the top ten was the other rookie Alessio Rovera (Cram). Honli Ye also put in a good performance for Koiranen GP.

"Imola is the real test of the season for ours two new drivers. We are getting fit to be ready for the first race of the Championship - commented Angelo Rosin for Prema "The other Prema driver, Alex Bosak, knows the Series very well, as this will be his third season. I’m confident that George Russel, in his debut year after a record in karting will perform very well in single seaters."

"I’m very happy about Isaakyan. - said Roberto Cavallari (JD Motorsport) "Already in the previous test in Monza he impressed us for his determination. In Imola as well he proved to be very quick and this is a matter of confidence. Shortly we will announce another driver."
