SPEEDWAY 1 – SUNDAY REVIEW)
MADS Korneliussen’s first appearance in the colours of new club Leicester was a winning one in his Testimonial meeting at King’s Lynn. The Lions side, containing three of their 2014 Elite League team members, finished four points clear of Swindon and King’s Lynn in the four-team tournament also featuring Newport. Korneliussen scored nine points from his four rides, whilst fellow Dane Niels-Kristian Iversen took the honours in the individual final.Leicester boss Norrie Allan said: “The Testimonial was a successful day for Mads and deservedly so as he has been a loyal servant to British Speedway since he arrived here eleven seasons ago now. For me personally the day was an opportunity for three of the boys to stretch their legs after the long winter lay-off and it was a bonus to win the competition. “Tom Perry and Max Clegg are riding at Birmingham on Wednesday in the Selco Classic so by the time we meet Peterborough at home on Saturday most of the team will have completed a fair number of practice laps.”

MARC Owen, Ryan MacDonald and Danno Verge have been handed call-ups to the British Under-21 semi-final at Plymouth on Saturday. The trio replace Max Clegg who has chosen to ride for his Elite League club Leicester on the same evening, Brandon Freemantle who suffered an elbow injury in a weekend crash at Plymouth, and Adam Kirby who is without equipment. David Holt and Tyler Govier take the reserve berths.GB Youth co-boss Neil Vatcher said: “Even though it is very disappointing when riders pull out of these events, we are very excited about seeing how their replacements perform.“Marc is coming back into competitive action after being out for almost two years when he was injured in the British Under-21 Final, whilst Ryan is making the trip down from his home in Glasgow. We really do admire his dedication and we are sure he is not coming down to Devon just to make the numbers up.“Finally, Danno moves up from one of the reserve spots to take his place in the 16, and he is determined to prove to National League promoters that he is ready for a team spot.”

COVENTRY and Peterborough will be offering discounted admission to season ticket holders of other clubs for their 2014 senior fixtures. They will allow entry for £10 to meetings at both venues to holders of Elite and Premier League season tickets except those of the club they are facing on the night.Coventry promoter Mick Horton also fronts the consortium which has taken charge of Peterborough, and he said: “I know a similar scheme has operated before between tracks at Premier League level, and with my involvement at two clubs it gives us the chance for some crossover promotions.“It then seemed sensible that we extend that offer across the top two leagues, so the message is that neutral supporters who fancy a night out at either venue are more than welcome.”(FIXTURES)
