Mats and Emil Ohman confirm Euro RX campaign‏

Sweden’s Mats and Emil Ohman have confirmed they will compete in the 2014 FIA European Rallycross Championship (Euro RX) at the wheel of two Citroen DS3 Supercars.Mats Öhman, a European and seven-time Swedish Snowcross champion, has restricted mobility after a snowmobile accident back in 1998 left the 49-year-old Swede paralyzed from the waist down and wheelchair bound.Following the accident, Mats decided to take up rallycross and last year he claimed the runners-up spot in the Swedish Rallycross Championship with an adapted Supercar that allows him to drive using custom-made hand and arm controls. This year, Mats – who is also the father of reigning female World Snowcross Champion Elina Öhman - will contest eight out of 12 rounds of the all-new World RX: Great Britain, Norway, Belgium, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Italy, and France.“This year will be awesome,” enthused Mats who will pilot the same car that Sebastien Loeb used to scoop gold in X Games Los Angeles 2012 and which helped Timmy Hansen finish third in last year’s European Rallycross Championship. “When the opportunity came along from Hansen, it sounded like the right time to take on the challenge of a big Championship again,” continued Mats.Emil Öhman – a double World Champion in Snowcross - will pilot a second Citroen DS3 Supercar and will contest five rounds of this year’s Championship alongside his uncle: Great Britain, Norway, Belgium, Germany and Italy.“It will be so much fun trying my wings in World RX,” explained 28-year-old Emil. “I have followed Mats and know that the sport can be tough, but after my years in snowcross it's not the jumps I'm concerned about. Even if I'm used to hard driving in snowcross, rallycross is something new and I will have to adapt as well as I can, but I am sure it will be great fun and I can’t wait to get started.”Martin Anayi, Managing Director of FIA World Rallycross Championship for IMG Motorsport, added: “It’s fantastic to have Mats and Emil with us for 2014. Mats is an amazing role model and has proved himself as a formidable driver on the grid. His nephew Emil is a hugely talented sportsman who has had huge success on the world stage in snowcross - I look forward to seeing how he compares in rallycross this season.”Mats and Emil will kickstart their 2014 campaign on World RX of Great Britain at Lydden Hill from 24-25 May, which will also form the opening round of this year’s Euro RX.
