Jimenez returns to Carrera Cup GB

Spanish racer Victor Jimenez will return to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this season as he steps up to the Pro category alongside his Redline Racing team mates Michael Meadows and Josh Webster.The former single-seater racer won the championship’s Pro-Am1 category last season with an exemplary campaign with the Redline squad, including nine wins and a further nine podiums: he finished on the Pro-Am1 podium in 18 of the season’s 20 races. Jimenez will now contest the Carrera Cup’s top division as the all-new Type-991 911 GT3 Cup makes its championship debut.The 30-year old driver from Madrid will once more commute to the UK for each race weekend. In fact, he has done virtually all his racing in the UK having previously competed in Formula Renault BARC and Formula Palmer Audi. He joined the Carrera Cup in 2012 and finished fourth in Pro-Am1 in his debut season.Jimenez says he had worked flat out all winter to raise the budget to return to the Carrera Cup GB and will be backed by Elmasa, Porsche Madrid Norte and mytractor.“I worked every day to find the sponsors,” he said while shaking his new car down at Silverstone on Tuesday (18 March). “I love the new car: it is completely different to the old car.”Team boss Simon Leonard is delighted to have Jimenez back in his team for a third season. “Victor is a great guy to have around and I think he will work very well with Michael and Josh. I certainly expect to see him on the overall podium this season,” said Leonard.
