2013 MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez started his title defence the first win of the season ahead of challengers Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa.

Repsol Honda’s 21 year-old rider produced a gritty performance to take maximum points despite breaking his leg in preseason and missing the last two MotoGP tests. The Marquez and Rossi duel went down to the last lap and saw the Spaniard outpace the Italian by 0.25s

Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Jorge Lorenzo crashed out of the race lead on lap 1.

Aleix Espargaro took fourth on his debut for NGM Forward Racing after crashes for Alvaro Baustista (GO&FUN Honda Gresini) and Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3).

Andrea Dovizioso and Cal Crutchlow came home fifth and sixth for Ducati Team.

Scott Redding (GO&FUN Honda Gresini) pipped Nicky Hayden (Drive M7 Aspar) to seventh by a 0.035s margin.

Colin Edwards (NGM Forward Racing) and Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing) rounded out the top ten
