Pleasing Silverstone GP Test For SWR Formula 4 Rookies

Top BRDC Formula 4 Championship team SWR stepped-up its preparations ahead of the 2014 season at its home track, Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, prior to the weekend and reported a very positive two day test outing for exciting category newcomers Diego Borrelli and Nicolas Beer. With the Northamptonshire venue’s full GP configuration hosting the first three BRDC Formula 4 races of the new campaign at the end of April, the opportunity to gain some precious running was snapped-up by all teams with signed drivers on Thursday, 20th March, during a semi-exclusive day for the F4 crews.Electing to remain at Silverstone on Friday, 21st March, Chipping Norton’s SWR continued to rack up the miles with rookies Borrelli and Beer but a series of red flag stoppages caused by other cars did, unfortunately, interrupt the flow of the day.Nonetheless, team owner Sean Walkinshaw was very pleased with the continued progression of double ADAC Formel Masters race winner Beer and multiple karting champion Borrelli who will both be racing in the UK for the first time this year.“Friday was a little bit frustrating as there were quite a few red flags, the first day was good though being semi-exclusive for F4 and we got a lot of good work completed”, said Walkinshaw, “Overall, the test went well and it was good for Diego and Nicolas to get some experience of the Grand Prix track before the first round at Silverstone next month.“In total, Diego and Nicolas have both had about five days each in the car and they’re making good progress. Nicolas has already had a year in single-seaters, so he’s been able to use that experience, but the speed is definitely there with Diego too and with more seat time he will only get quicker and quicker. We definitely have high hopes for both of them as the season progresses.”At just 16-years-of-age, Venezuelan racer Borrelli will be one of the youngest competitors in BRDC Formula 4 this year and he arrives in British motorsport with a sensational reputation from karting back home in South America. Winning no fewer than seven championship titles, the protégé of GP2 Series and EuroFormula Open team boss Adrian Campos is highly regardedDanish youngster Beer, meanwhile, is also a multiple champion in the ranks of karting and after moving into car racing in 2012 he became a race winner in Formula Ford before finishing the ADAC Formel Masters series the following year an impressive fourth in the championship standings. With more pre-season testing to come over the next few weeks, the BRDC Formula 4 Championship season will then commence on 26th/27th April at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit.
