Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent hosts the opening three rounds of the rebranded Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup this coming weekend, 29th/30th March, where series newcomer Charlie Robertson is targeting a successful start to his maiden campaign in the category.Returning to the prestigious Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship support package for the first time since winning the 2012 Ginetta Junior Championship, having raced in the BRDC Formula 4 Championship last year, the 17-year-old from Whyteleafe is relishing his new challenge. As well as reuniting with the Ginetta brand, with whom he made his car racing debut in 2011, Charlie continues his unbroken relationship with top team HHC Motorsport into the new season as the Jody Hemmings and Charlie Kemp-led squad also makes its debut in the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup.“I really can’t wait for the season to start, next weekend can’t come soon enough”, said the Investigo-supported racer, “Brands is my local track, and we’ve always gone well there, so it’s the perfect place to make my debut in the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup. We had a lot of options on the table for 2014, but I’m really happy we settled on a return to the BTCC package – it’s the best in the UK.”Off the back of his Ginetta Junior title success a couple of years ago at the tender age of 15, which catapulted the Surrey-based Scotsman into the headlines, Charlie made his single-seater debut last season in BRDC Formula 4 and put together a superb championship bid.Taking three race wins and six further podiums, he ended the season third in the driver standings and his standout performances were rewarded with a nomination for the 2013 McLaren Autosport BRDC Award – the youngest ever driver to be put forward for the renowned accolade. With a significant increase in budget required for a continuation up the single-seater ladder onto the European stage though, Charlie sensibly turned his attention back from open-wheelers to a future in sportscar racing. The logical move into the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup, piloting a monstrous 370bhp V6-engined Ginetta G55, should certainly pay dividends if pre-season testing is an indicator.“Everything has gone well in testing, the car is great to drive and having the continuity of working with the guys at HHC again is a huge bonus”, added Charlie, “We won the championship in Ginetta Junior, won races in F4 so the aim has to be to do the same in the SuperCup. It won’t be easy, there are some very experienced drivers on the grid this year, but I’m confident we can do a good job.”Pre-event practice for the opening weekend of the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup season will take place on Friday, 28th March, ahead of qualifying and round one on Saturday, 29th March, at 09.30 and 15.10 respectively. On Sunday, 30th March, rounds two and three will be contested at 10.50 and 17.45 with action expected to be carried on ITV4 and ITV4 HD.
