Supersports at Snetterton

The high-speed Snetterton circuit in Norfolk is the setting for rounds five and six of the 2004 Dunlop National Supersports Championship over the Bank Holiday weekend of 30/31 May.

With strong representation from Chiron, Nemesis and Juno, the stage is set for a cracking pair of races and with a steadily growing number of cars in action, the Supersports races should be a highlight of a weekend in which sportscars feature strongly.

Defending champion Stephen Shanly has won three of the four races to date for the Chiron marque, and has recently been joined by Doug Hart and Peter Hobday in two more examples of the superb design from young Henry Nickless. Hart, in particular, showed race-winning pace at Croft and will aim to build on that at Snetterton.

But Shanly, Hart and the Chiron team cannot expect an easy time at Snetterton and at Croft last time out one race win went to the Juno SS2 of Robert Oldershaw. Racing on relatively home ground at Snetterton, Oldershaw is more than capable of adding more race wins in the very effective Juno.

Meanwhile, the Nemesis squad will also be major contenders, including team boss Paul Gibson and category newcomer Jeremy Smith. Packing out the Nemesis challenge will be former champion David Pegley and John Harrison, although Pegley suffered a sizeable accident at Croft and will be racing against time to be ready for Snetterton.

In the SP3 class for 1300cc Radical Prosports, defending champion Neil Huggins continues to be the man to beat, but Welsh racer Peter Williams, former British GT racer Keith McKenzie, Ollie Vaulkhard and series returnee Simon Leighton are all due to pack out the class.
