Difficult weekend for Lando Norris in WSK Super Masters Series

ADD Motorsports driver Lando Norris found the going tough despite some super quick times in the WSK Masters Series.

The 14-year-old racer faced torrential rain and engine problems in the final at Sarno, leaving him struggling to find any kind of momentum.

But after topping the time sheets earlier in the day with brother Oli,

he feels with some hard work and a bit of luck he can turn things round after a difficult start to life since stepping up from KFJ.

He said: “For some reason we struggled in the final. We looked good and were getting some really quick times earlier in the day, but we just couldn’t get going.

“We’re not sure why we struggled, but we lost a lot of the pace we had.

“It’s just one of those things, but after crashing in the pre-final, it wasn’t a great way to finish the weekend.”

Lando was on the back foot from the word go finding himself in the much slower qualifying heat.

Although he finished fourth in his heat, it left him 22nd overall.

He started his first heat in 11th but after a rocky start found himself pushed back. But he came back strongly to finish in 13th.

Lando was more aggressive in the second heat but was hit hard and found himself back in last place. However, a good comeback and some quick laps saw him get back to 14th.

The last heat saw Lando involved in another crash that left his steering bent which made it difficult on the corners. He couldn’t get back into the race and had a DNF.

The pre final saw Lando again pull back from a bad start to finish in 12th. But that left him back in 24th for the final which would have been difficult enough, but made even harder by torrential rain and the fact that the kart was not running smoothly.

Lando said: “It was the worst visibility I’ve ever driven in, it was really dangerous and you couldn’t hardly even see the driver in front of you.

“But even then, we were struggling. We’d been really quick up until then, but something just wasn’t right.”

However, despite another difficult weekend, Lando is determined to put the work in to get it right and knows he’s not far away from returning to his best form.

He added: “I’ve got to be more aggressive at the start of races and do better in my heats and qualifying. They set you up for the rest of the weekend.

“We’ve got the pace, yet we’re struggling, but I’m sure things will get better soon.
