Kelvin Fletcher will make his Porsche Carrera Cup GB debut at Brands Hatch this weekend (29/30 March) with Redline Racing and will contest as many rounds as his 2014 schedule allows.Fletcher is an accomplished actor and is best known for his role in ‘Emmerdale’ where he has played the role of Andy Sugden for 16 years. However, he has also shown himself to be a talented racer over the last couple of seasons and he spent the 2013 season competing in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge with Redline Racing. He finished the season third in the overall points after taking victory in the final round at Silverstone.“I’m very fortunate now in that I have my first love, which is drama and acting, for a living and I’m also managing to go racing as well,” said the Oldham-based driver, who only started racing at the beginning of the 2012 season.Fletcher will step up to the stunning new Type-911 911 GT3 Cup for his first taste of the Carrera Cup GB and will only get to drive the car for the first time during testing at Brands Hatch on Friday. However, his Redline Racing team mates include double Carrera Cup champion Michael Meadows, so Fletcher will have plenty of experience to draw on.Fletcher says that the Brands Hatch race weekend offered an ideal chance to sample the new car. On the grid at Brands Hatch, Fletcher will line-up with 2013 rivals like Peter Kyle-Henney and Steven Liquorish, who are also stepping up to the Carrera Cup GB for the new season.Support for the project comes from Sacred, the café chain and coffee brand company headed by his old friend and racing mentor Tubbs Wanigasekera. Sacred is already a championship partner for the Carrera Cup GB.Simon Leonard of Redline Racing, the most successful team in the history of the Carrera Cup GB, said: “I’m delighted that Kelvin is stepping up with us. We ran him in the GT3 Cup Challenge last year and it’s really good to continue that relationship into the Carrera Cup. I think he’ll go very well in Pro-Am2.”
