Following its annual non-championship appearance in Melbourne to support the Australian Grand Prix, V8 Supercars gets back to business this weekend in our delayed second-round coverage from Symmons Plains Raceway. Despite winning the Adelaide opener, reigning champion Jamie Whincup endured a disastrous final race which dropped him to seventh in the standings, while team-mate Craig Lowndes signalled his title aspirations with a victory and two second places to give the 39-year-old an early points lead. Meanwhile, Shane Van Gisbergen will aim to convert his exceptional Melbourne form into championship points this weekend. Our globe-trotting action continues on Sunday as we head to South America for live third-round coverage of the FIM Motocross World Championship from Brazil, the first of two 2014 trips to the continent’s largest country. Following his clean sweep of both races in Thailand, five-time MXGP champion Tony Cairoli has taken an early championship advantage and leads Maximilian Nagl by 16 points, with a further five covering second to fifth. Meanwhile, in MX2, Jeffrey Herlings has already scored three wins so far in 2014. The Dutchman was beaten only twice last season – excluding the four races he missed through injury – one of which was in Brazil. Nearest rival Dylan Ferrandis will be doing all he can to prevent KTM’s main man from making amends this time around. Next up a whole heap of grassroots motorsport thanks to our Motors TV Raceday highlights from Donington Park. The first of four such events this year, the made-for-television format visits the UK’s best circuits and features a crammed roster which is guaranteed to produce some thrilling racing. With a wide variety of machinery on display such as BMWs, Formula Fords, Mazdas, Caterhams and classic touring cars, it’s sure to be an action packed weekend as the Leicestershire countryside showcases the best of club-level motorsport. The atmosphere will be similarly electrifying in our fifth-round NASCAR Nationwide Series highlights from Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, the only Californian race of 2014. Regan Smith narrowly heads Trevor Bayne in the standings, although his advantage continues to shrink rapidly with the top six drivers covered by a mere 20 points. The Nationwide regulars could well be left to feed on scraps again though if Sprint Cup star Kyle Busch fancies adding a third victory to his season’s tally.
