The Italian team confirms its GT2 programme with the Ferrari 458 and Schirò alongside the reigning champion
Villorba Corse will start the 2014 International GT Open with Andrea Montermini and Niccolò Schirò behind the wheel of the Ferrari 458 GT2. In the very challenging series organized by GT Sport the Italian team will have the number 1 on its Ferrari as last season Montermini won both the overall and Super GT titles. The main goal is to confirm the squad at the top of the standings.
Villorba Corse strengthens its maximum effort in the GT2 programme, putting it beside the previously announced GT3 commitments in the Blancpain Endurance Series with Castellacci, Gai and Rizzoli and in the Blancpain Sprint Series with Salaquarda alongside Montermini. The reigning GT Open champion will have to honour a double challenge at the highest levels of GT racing.
In the GT2 programme his teammate is Schirò, the 20-years-old 2012 European F3 Open champion with whom the F1 driver from Modena has already raced in the last round of 2013 at Barcelona. The Villorba crew will start the championship at the Nurburgring on May 4. Portimao (June 8), Jerez (June 22), Budapest (July 6), Silverstone (July 20), Spa (7 September), Monza (September 28) and Barcelona (October 19) will follow.
“The GT Open commitment - says Raimondo Amadio, Team Principal - will be our main focus in the GT2 world once again. We are working hard as the number 1 means defending the title and confirming our excellent achievements. That is why I decided to bet on two drivers who are capable to provide experience and novelty, tradition and future. We are very happy to start a championship such as GT Open and very honoured to be able to do it with a top car like the Ferrari 458 GT2.”
