Donington Park to showcase eclectic and exciting array of race machinery
The Avon Tyres British GT Championship will open its doors to press and public for Preview Day at Leicestershire’s Donington Park on April 8 with an eclectic and exciting array of race machinery taking to the track.
Almost thirty cars are scheduled to attend from the capacity entry to the 21st season of the world’s premier national GT Championship with cars from Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Ferrari, Ginetta, Lotus, McLaren, Nissan, Porsche and Toyota.
Preview Day will showcase the very best of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship as well as its open-wheel partner, the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 Championship around the sensuous curves of Leicestershire’s finest race track in GP configuration. F3 cars will open the day’s track action in the morning with the GTs taking to the circuit in the afternoon.
The full season entry list will be confirmed for what promises to be a showcase of delights as the finest GT cars the world can offer are pitched in battle against each other, piloted by a diverse array of gentlemen drivers and eager hot-shots.
Fans attending will have the chance to enter a competition to win a passenger ride in one of two very special vehicles in attendance: McLaren’s P1 Hypercar and Nissan’s fast and furious Juke-R.
As a side-order of delight, Sky Sports F1 will also be on site during the day filming a feature for airing later in the season. Presenters Martin Brundle and Damon Hill – who between them know a thing or two about motor racing – will be on track along with former F1 and current WEC driver Bruno Senna in some iconic machinery. There’s not much more we can say about it here, but those attending Donington will get a very special treat indeed…
There will be no cost for public attendance at Preview Day, however donations will be taken for Neil Cunningham’s charity, www.racing4mnd.org. Neil himself will attend the day.
British GT Championship Series Manager, Benjamin Franassovici: “The 2014 season promises to be another epic in the history of the British GT Championship. We have a fantastic array of exciting machinery with over ten manufacturers represented. The driver line-ups we have should offer superb racing and the sound and spectacle of real GT cars on Britain’s finest race tracks should not be underestimated.”
Sarah McRoberts, Marketing Communications Manager for Cooper Tire Europe: “Donington Park played host to a thrilling season finale in 2013, so it’s fitting for us to be back here to launch the forthcoming season. Everyone at Avon is keen to get the season underway and we’re particularly excited to be welcoming new teams and drivers to the series, which is growing in stature year-on-year.”
The 2014 Avon Tyres British GT Championship will start at Cheshire’s fabulous Oulton Park circuit over the bank holiday Easter weekend of 19- 21 April, whilst the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 Championship will commence at Rockingham on May 4-5.
