Charlie Robertson Determined To Maintain Ginetta GT4 Momentum

Sportscar racer Charlie Robertson is confident of keeping his superb early season momentum rolling at Donington Park in Leicestershire next weekend, 19th/20th April, when rounds four, five and six of the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup campaign take place.Making a sensational debut in the British Touring Car Championship support category a fortnight ago at Brands Hatch, the Whyteleafe teenager starred with a podium finish in his maiden race and then added an excellent victory in round two.Going on to conclude the opening Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup weekend second in the standings, the Investigo-backed HHC Motorsport driver made a huge impact on his return to the BTCC package and is aiming to produce another big weekend when the season resumes over the Easter break.“Brands was fantastic, we really couldn’t have hoped to make such a great start to the season”, said the 17-year-old, “You always want to win but to stand on the top step of the podium on my first weekend in the championship was pretty special, and unexpected! We’ve still got a lot to learn about the car so that obviously bodes well for the rest of the year.“Donington is a great track and we’ve always gone well there, I was on the podium in Ginetta Junior and won two races there in Formula 4 last year with HHC so we’re feeling pretty confident. We won’t know where we are until qualifying, but if we can have a strong test run next Thursday I’m sure we’ll be where we need to be to fight for more podiums.”Ahead of the Donington races, the majority of the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup contingent this week took part in an officially timed test outing at Thruxton in Hampshire which will be the venue for the third race meeting of the season on 3rd/4th MayVisiting the ultra-fast 2.35-mile track for the first time since his championship-winning Ginetta Junior season in 2012, when he claimed victory in both Thruxton races, Charlie was third fastest in session one and sixth during the afternoon run to conclude the day inside the top six overall.“Thruxton was good, it’s really challenging in the [Ginetta] G55 – I’m pleased with the times”, said Charlie, “Third fastest in the morning was great, then we experimented with some different aero set-ups and I was happy with the changes we made. We made a huge step forward in performance, we unlocked something else in the car – we’re definitely moving in the right direction.”Pre-event testing ahead of the Donington Park weekend will take place next Thursday, 17th April, and after a day of no track activity on Good Friday qualifying and round four of the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup season will be held on Saturday, 19th April, at 09.30 and 14.45 respectively. On Easter Sunday, 20th April, round five will begin the day’s racing at 09.25 while round six, which will be screened live on ITV4 and ITV4 HD and streamed online at the www.itv.com/btcc website, is scheduled to get underway at approximately 15.05.
