Silverstone Start For Double R In European F3 Championship‏

Brazilian driver Felipe Guimaraes will be carrying Double R Racing’s hopes of a successful start to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship season during the team’s ‘home’ race meeting at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit this coming weekend, 19th/20th April.Running in support of the prestigious FIA World Endurance Championship, the opening three rounds of the FIA Formula 3 season will be the biggest challenge of the Brasilia 22-year-old’s career to date where he will line-up as part of a near 30 car grid.Over the course of the past couple of weeks, Guimaraes and Double R have enjoyed good preparation for the championship curtain-raiser on Easter weekend with four successful days of officially timed FIA Formula 3 testing. At the Hungaroring in Hungary on Friday, 4th April, and Saturday, 5th April, the Dallara-Mercedes driver made good improvements over the two days to end up with a best lap of 1m36.905s – just 0.8 seconds shy of the top of the timesheets.Travelling directly to the Red Bull Ring in Austria for the start of the second test on Tuesday, 8th April, the 2013 Formula 3 Sudamericana Champion was only a second away from the outright pace, and on Wednesday, 9th April, he posted a best time of 1m24.992 seconds to get to within just half a second of the top six.“Hungary and the Red Bull Ring went well, I’m really pleased with the progress Felipe made as it has set him up well for the opening rounds this weekend at Silverstone”, said team principal Anthony ‘Boyo’ Hieatt, “Beginning the season on British soil is great, we always love racing at Silverstone and hopefully we can get the year off to a strong start.“There’s no getting away from the fact the FIA Formula 3 European Championship is the toughest and most competitive F3 category on the globe, the series is hugely challenging but we’re confident Felipe has all the makings of a strong contender at this level.”Following practice and qualifying at Silverstone on Good Friday, 18th April, rounds one and two of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship are scheduled for 10.20 and 13.20 on Saturday, 19th April. On Easter Sunday, 20th April, round three will get underway at 09.15.Chang and Kaminsky impress during British F3 Media DayAs well as Double R’s preparations for this weekend’s FIA Formula 3 European Championship race meeting, the team’s Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series squad was also in action last week for the annual Media Day and officially timed test at Donington Park.New team-mates Andy Chang and Camren Kaminsky both delivered impressive performances at the Leicestershire venue’s full Grand Prix Circuit, with Macanese 17-year-old Chang ending the test second fastest with a best lap of 1m27.543 seconds (102.28mph).American youngster Caminsky, meanwhile, was a mere 0.055 seconds shy of his team-mate’s best lap with a time of 1m27.598 seconds (102.22mph) placing him third overall for the day and a quarter of a second clear of his nearest challenger.“Andy and Camren did a great job during the Media Day test, ending the day second and third was good going from both of them and there’s obviously much more to come”, said Hieatt, “It’s not long now before the British F3 begins, so we’ll get in as much testing as we can and aim to be fighting for the podium on the opening weekend.”Rockingham in Northamptonshire hosts the opening three rounds of the 2014 Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series on Sunday, 4th May, and Bank Holiday Monday, 5th May.
