Andrew Jordan and Pirtek Racing will head for Andrew’s home track of Donington Park (19/20 April) for the next three races in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, but Andrew says that carrying maximum success ballast on his Honda Civic as championship leader is going to make it a very tough weekend.Andrew’s campaign to defend his crown started superbly in the opening three races at Brands Hatch at the end of March when he took pole position and won the season’s first two races. That performance catapulted him straight into the championship lead, but that early success brings its own problems as he now goes to the East Midlands track carrying the maximum ballast of 45kg.Donington Park is the home track for Lichfield-based Andrew, and it is a track where he has always been very quick. But he has warned against expecting too much this Easter weekend as the strength of the 2014 BTCC field means that every excess kilo will hurt the car’s pace. As well as Andrew, as the 2013 BTCC champion, another six former BTCC champions are in the sensational 31-car field.“We go to Donington with full weight and I think that’s going to make more of a difference this year for qualifying because there are more people up at the front of the pack,” he said. “We’ll try and qualify as well as we can with the weight but to get another pole will be very difficult.”After the first three races of the 30-race schedule, Andrew heads the overall title race by just two points from Matt Neal with Colin Turkington only one point further back. Even at this early stage of the season, Andrew says the title battle will be all about consistency across the 30-race season.“We need to be in championship mode all the time now: consistency will win this championship,” he said. “It’s not going to be about the number of race wins, it will be about who scores the most consistent points through the season and that’s what we’ll try and do.”After qualifying on Saturday 19 April at 15.40, the first of three BTCC races will be at 11.35 on Sunday, with race two at 14.25 and race three at 17.15. All three races will be broadcast live on ITV4. Qualifying will be broadcast live at www.itv.com and live results from the weekend will be available at www.tsl-timing.com
