(SPEEDWAY 1 – MONDAY REVIEW)
MACIEJ Janowski swept to a 15-point maximum as Poole defeated Coventry 49-41 in a hugely entertaining televised Elite League fixture at Wimborne Road.Stand-in Pirates skipper Janowski reeled off five straight wins with reserve Kyle Newman also attracting high praise for a match-winning 12 (paid 13) contribution to edge out a Bees side who led after nine races with Kenneth Hansen (9+1) adding much to the spectacle.Chris Holder, who made his Poole return as a replacement for Darcy Ward, said: “Kyle put in a great shift tonight. I haven't seen him ride that well before - he looked at ease on the bike and it was a terrific performance, and with Magic going through the card it showed the character there is in this Poole side.”Coventry boss Gary Havelock continues to be encouraged with his team, saying: “I’m disappointed because I do think we deserved a point, but I’m certainly not gutted – I’m actually really pleased with how we’re going and the way the boys have gelled early on.”Wolverhampton ended King’s Lynn’s unbeaten run with a 47-42 win at Monmore Green, making it three wins out of three for the home side although both teams took something from the meeting.Wolves had to be content with two points as King’s Lynn secured one thanks to a last-heat 5-1 from Danish duo Niels-Kristian Iversen and Kenneth Bjerre, who defeated Piotr Pawlicki and Tai Woffinden.Wolves boss Peter Adams said: “Everybody will talk about the disappointing finish to the meeting, but I'd have taken a one point victory before we kicked-off against that King's Lynn side.“All in all given the problems we had in one or two positions I thought it was a terrific victory whatever the margin, and we're just pleased to keep our winning run going.”Belle Vue gained their first win of the season with a powerful all-round display to get the better of Leicester 56-35 at Kirkmanshulme Lane, in-form Scott Nicholls top-scoring on 11+2.Manager Jason Attwood said: “It was important, especially after the last two away meetings, for us to come away with all three points. It was our first home match and I think there was a feeling that Leicester might catch us on the hop as a result, which was probably a bit of my concern as well.“But we managed to put that to bed quickly and it was nice for us to be leading from the word go. I’ve always said confidence is a massive thing in speedway; confidence is winning and winning is confidence, and all the lads rode well and did themselves and the fans proud.”
(SPEEDWAY 2 – TUESDAY PREVIEW)
CRADLEY boss Will Pottinger expects a fierce battle for the British Under-21 Championship at Monmore Green tonight. The Heathens are represented by Tom Perry and Nathan Greaves along with several of the club’s former riders, including current Wolverhampton reserve Ashley Morris who can also call on extensive track knowledge.Pottinger said: “A third of the 18 riders who will be on parade are current or former Heathens, which must surely mean that we are doing something right!“Picking a winner is a very tough task but I’m sure that the likes of Kyle Howarth, Jason Garrity, Adam Ellis, Joe Jacobs and Ashley Morris will be there or thereabouts.”Normal National League prices apply for the showpiece event which features 22 races – adults £11, concessions £8 and children £2.Meanwhile Peterborough host Plymouth in the re-staging of the League Cup match postponed due to electrical failure at the Showground three weeks ago.Panthers co-boss Blayne Scroggins said: “We were 15 points to the good after they had used both tactical rides, so a big win looked on the cards. That is exactly what we need to pick up again. Maximum points are a must if we are to keep ourselves in with a chance of progressing to the knockout stages of the League Cup.”
