Monteiro and Honda secure first WTCC points of the season

Tiago Monteiro and Honda scored their first points of the 2014 FIA World Touring Car Championship, WTCC, at the first round of the season in Morocco this weekend. The Portuguese driver was a true warrior throughout the two rounds, when despite suffering with a lack of performance, he used all the qualities the Honda Civic had to score points by finishing in 5th place of the first Moroccan race. Despite this positive result, there was disappointment in race two when Tiago was demoted from 2nd to 10th place before having mechanical problems that saw his race end in retirement.

In the first race, Tiago made a great start and went from 7th on the grid to 5th place on the first lap. He was then hit by Borkovic, losing his rear bumper in the process, however he still secured points for fifth place in The end. "We have made several changes to the car and even though our speed was not ideal, we fought to stay ahead. I got the best possible result but we have to work hard to fight with the best,"

said Tiago.

The second race was marred by several accidents that led to the safety car being out on two occasions. "After the second safety car start I was confident of a good result, but my opponents at Citroën left me no chance. Then the trouble started with the under floor, which was slowly detaching and causing some nasty vibrations. This made it even harder to fight and then, with 2 laps to go, the under floor gave up and punctured a tire. It was a very difficult weekend all round, but there were positives that will be important in the future development of the Honda Civic. All the other changes we made moved us up a little and that was encouraging, but there is no doubt that we need to improve further. We will make some adjustments for the next round at Paul Ricard in a week's time, and we hope that we can get closer to our opponents there."

The next round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship, WTCC, will take place on April 20th at Paul Ricard in France.
