Daniel Lloyd To Race McLaren In Blancpain Sprint Series

Daniel Lloyd is delighted to announce he will contest the full 2014 Blancpain Sprint Series, his maiden season at international level, after finalising a deal with Bhai Tech Racing to pilot a McLaren MP4-12C GT3 – his debut coming this weekend at Nogaro in France with live UK television coverage on digital satellite and cable channels ESPN and ESPN HD on Easter Monday, 21st April.Following hot on the heels of his confirmation last week of a two-race deal in the sister Blancpain Endurance Series with Beechdean Aston Martin Racing, where he will drive an Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 in the Silverstone three-hour race and Total 24 Hours of Spa, months of incredibly hard work behind the scenes have paid off for the British driver. The 22-year-old’s full programme in the Sprint Series, the championship previously known as the FIA GT Series, marks his first year of endurance-style racing and he will be partnered by Estonian driver Sten Pentus in the Bhai Tech Racing McLaren.Powered by a 3.8-litre mid-mounted V8 twin-turbo engine, and featuring Formula One-style technology, the rear-wheel drive British-built supercar is one of the most competitive sportscars in the Blancpain Sprint Series.Bhai Tech was established in 2011 and during its maiden season in the International GT Open last year the Italian squad made its presence felt by winning the Drivers and Teams titles in the GTS Class, a superb achievement on its category debut.“My career goal has always been to race at Le Mans one day, so driving in the Blancpain Sprint Series this year with Bhai Tech Racing is the perfect next step on the ladder”, said Daniel, “We’ve been working so hard at putting together a full international deal for at least five months – this move is definitely the right decision for my career.“Racing in the Sprint Series puts me in the perfect place to get noticed by all of the major sportscar manufacturers. I really can’t wait for the first round, I took part in the official test recently at Paul Ricard and I’ve been practicing pitstops with the team this week – the McLaren is awesome to drive. Along with the Endurance Series races I’ll be doing, it’s fantastic to confirm my full 2014 season.”Key to the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star’s racing this season, as during his two years in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship where he was the 2012/2013 Scholar, is an impressive portfolio of sponsors – many of whom existing partners who are continuing to provide support.“It’s always very hard work to put together the sponsorship package to go racing, but it’s definitely been harder than ever this year”, added Daniel, “I’m really fortunate to have some great sponsors who have given me fantastic support over the last couple of years, most of them are continuing with me for 2014 but we do still need to find more budget – so the hard work on that side continues.”While the vast majority of Daniel’s racing will be overseas this year, his followers in the UK will be able to keep up with all of the Blancpain Sprint Series action on ESPN and BT Sport.
