The fifth annual “Sunday Royals Garage Car Show” is Sunday (duh!), May 25, on Sam Posey Straight at Lime Rock Park. Jeff Gordon’s AARP “Drive to End Hunger” campaign is this year’s charity.
We know that most of the people that get these Lime Rock releases have excellent rides in their garages and driveways, and we’re getting the word out so you can put us on your schedule.
Note that this is not a concours show... we save that for each year’s Labor Day weekend Historic Festival.
The Royals Show is for the rest of us... owners of Mustangs and Matadors and Buick Grand Sports and Novas and choppers and rods and customs and pick-ups and brand-effing-new Camaros and C7s and even Lambos and McLarens.
Ask yourself this question – Are you proud of your car? – and if the answer is yes, you’re coming...
If you have a nice ride, regardless of what it is – what, you have a 1956 Packard Caribbean? A perfect condition AMC Pacer? A 2002tii? A drift-ready 240SX in very nice shape? A 1979 Kawasaki KZ1000? A 1960 Renault Dauphine, for goodness sake? Or a mid-60s XKE or Alfa? – then you’ve got to bring it to the show and get it on the race track for everybody to enjoy. And that includes Skip Barber, who loves everything cool, from Ferraris to American customs (did you know Skip used to own the original ’32 Ford Golden Rod hot rod?).
The entry fee is just $10 per vehicle ($5 for vets or current military) and kids 12 and under are free. Spectators are expected to donate $5.
All the money goes to AARP’s “Drive to End Hunger,” which will hand the money to local food banks that help older Americans.
For the record, there are four very nice trophies (no bowling team trophies at this show) for Royals Crown, People’s Pick, Skip’s Selection and Veterans Vote.
You don’t have to pre-register – just show up Sunday morning between 7:00 and 9:30 and hand your donation to Torrington’s Royals family (Glenn, JR, John, Raymond and their wonderful wives and kids) at the gate, who will send you down to Sam Posey Straight.
The Sunday Royals Car Show is the capper to Lime Rock Park’s Season Opener, the IMSA Continental Tire/Porsche GT3 Cup/VSCCA/Electric Vehicle Sports Racer (demo race) event.
